ABOUT

Hi, I’m ANITA MBABAZI.

BIRTHWORKER, EDUCATOR & WELLNESS PRACTITIONER

My practice is rooted in East African traditions. I lean into the ancient wisdom of my elders, most particularly my great-grandmother who worked with plant medicine.

I support positive and powerful birth experiences, honouring each mama as the ultimate authority over their body, pregnancy and birth experience.

My reinitiation into birthwork came when I chose a freebirth homebirth supported by a birthworker. This was incredibly important to me to birth in a safe space that was peaceful, calm and familiar. With herbs, massage, dancing and breathing. The silence, music and gentle reminders of my power helped me soften and surrender to the initiation and re-birth. And Tete was born in power (as was Mama Tete) just as my ancestors were.

I have worked in community for many years with a previous focus on mental wellbeing from community settings to secure units. I also worked with the Manchester City Council before becoming a mother, supporting women - navigating homelessness and related challenges such as domestic abuse, sexual abuse, substance misuse & addictions, sex work and various mental health conditions - to reconnect with their inner power to facilitate growth and healing. Community work is at the heart of my service to life and I always welcome opportunties for community collaboration.

I value and respect freedom and free thinkers. I am a Home Ed Mum. I tend to see the depth of situations but do not take life too seriously. My friends say I have a good sense of humour.

I love dancing, plant-based food, making home remedies with my daughter and communing with mother nature. I’ve recently started the journey of reigniting the gardener within and loving it.

You can find more about me and what I’m up to on the socials. Always open to connect there too.

A BIT MORE ABOUT ME.

In honour of our ancestors and elders

Mama Tete is all about honouring traditional ways of birth and wellness. I would not be here were it not for the many mothers who came before me. I give my deep thanks and special acknowledgement here to my mother’s grandmother and my first traditional birth teacher.

  • "I am so thankful for having the support from Anita, I could count on her in my physical and emotional healing during my postpartum."

    Claudia, a mother supported

  • "She brings a timeless wisdom to her work, embodying both gentleness and strength as a radical educator."

Nicola Goodall, Red Tent Doula Collective

  • "Intuitive, full of questions and absolutely hilarious, Mama Tete is one safe pair of hands with a big heart."

    Rosie Carter-Suso, Mother and Celebrant
