MAKING ‘THE VILLAGE’ ACCESSIBLE

Collaborations & Community

COMMUNITY IS ours. together we are strong.

We are social beings by nature. Community is essential to our wellbeing especially in our modern way of life. I'm a firm believer in that "It takes a village". It is what I know as I was indeed raised by the village.

Pregnancy and birth are sacred inititiations in life and there is a great need for all mothers to be held and supported by their village. My community work for many years has been centered around women and families, involving birthwork, cultural safety, mental health support, mentoring, education and peer support work.

I believe education is important to our growth as a community and I look to collaborate where aligned with shared goals and values, to ensure women, and those who care for them, have access to quality and empowering education.

HOLDING HER SPACE

Co-Founder, Operations Lead, Peer Support Lead and Community Birthworker

Holding Her Space is a community-based prenatal, birth and postnatal doula service in Greater Manchester to families of African and Caribbean origin. As co-founder of HHS since 2018 I have been part of the team providing non-clinical, holistic and personalised support for women and families throughout the stages of pregnancy and parenthood to improve maternal health for the community. I worked 1-2-1 as well as leading group workshops and several projects. Responsible for Peer Support, I co-facilitated peer support groups, childbirth education, creative education and community engagement and events.

WITH-YOU CONSULTANCY

Associate

With-You Consultancy provides AIM Accredited Peer Support Worker (PSW) Training as a comprehensive course to equip those working in peer-based roles with all the fundamentals and core skills to work across various settings and sectors. I work as part of the online delivery team that facilitates discussions, small group activities and introduce skills practice to maximise inclusivity and participation. Through interactive methods and humanist principles, we foster a supportive environment for reflection and skill development, drawing on the HEE Competency Framework. I am also an active part of the With-You Black & Asian network which meets monthly to hold space for peer support workers of Black and Asian origin.

RED TENT DOULA COLLECTIVE

Facilitator

As a student and big sister in the Red Tent for a long time and graduate of the Radical Educators Training, I am now a facilitator of the Red Tent Birthworker/Doula Training in Greater Manchester. Learning at the feet of elders is something I do intentionally, so being honoured and trusted to facilitate the learning of the next generation of birthworkers is a full-circle village undertaking I love.

OFFERINGS

FACILITATION

I offer facilitation to individuals as well as groups in person and virtually through personalised workshops, professional training and women circles.

PEER SUPPORT

As a peer support facilitator, I offer 1-2-1 as well as group support for women and mothers. Creating safe spaces both in-person and online for those vulnerable and yet valuable conversations while being held with Love, kindness and understanding. If you'd like me to facilitate a circle or group, please reach out.

Birth and wellness

I walk with mamas on their journey into motherhood. Offering holistic support during pregnancy, birth and motherhood. Holding space for mamas in their transition from maiden to mother or on subsequent births because every birth is rebirth into motherhood.

Holistic wellness is a lifestyle and I love to incorporate this in the work I do to support mamas, families and community. This includes education around nutrition, mindfulness, intentional movement, self-love & self-care as well as using mother nature to make herbal remedies, body butters & salves and in traditional Postpartum care.

birthworker training

I co-created and facilitated Community Birth Supporter Training at Holding Her Space, made possible through National Lottery funding.

I am also the Greater Manchester facilitator for Red Tent Doula Collective Birthworkwer/Doula training. Next training is on 24th-26th January 2026 and if you feel called to support mamas and families on their parenting journey, please reach out for registration and further details.

I also guide women on Traditional Postpartum Support, leaning into my African traditions and collaborating with elders in the community and globally to continue bringing that ancient wisdom into modern spaces through talking story.

WALK AND TALKS

For three years, I have offered monthly Walk and Talks for expecting and new mothers through Holding Her Space in outdoor locations around Greater Manchester. I can offer my experience in organising and running facilitated conversations in nature.

Public speaking

My service to community often involves public speaking. I love talking about all things birth and supporting with the decolonising of minds around maternal health and holistic wellness for our collective growth. I'm often reminding women of their power and bursting myths & addressing fears around pregnancy and birth. I've been invited to speak at maternal health and women-centred events, on social media and radio.

EDUCATION CLASSES

Education has been a key part of my service at Holding Her Space including childbirth education, Antenatal, Traditional Postpartum and Community Birth Supporter Training. I now offer private bespoke childbirth education, culturally informed training to organisations and maternity care providers as well as women wellness and overall holistic living, rooted in ancient African culture.
